pawleys island getaway

Let me just say that a vacation at the beach does a body good. And rubbing your toes in the sand and falling asleep to the sound of waves and noises in the marsh can restore the soul. That I am sure of. One of my besties is getting married so a herd of us ladies gathered for a weekend of celebration. And we didn't just gather at any ole place. We traveled to Pawleys Island, South Carolina. One of the most beautiful places ever. It's just a throwback in time. When I was little my family used to vacation there so the smell of the marsh and the feeling I got as we drove to the island came all rushing back.
Our crew rolled into the Sea View Inn which was just like the place I used to stay. No air conditioning, worn wooden floors, community bathrooms, three meals a day, and no shoes required. We wined & dined and laughed often and loudly over stories on the porch. I seriously don't think I've laughed that hard in a long, long time. I'm not sure they've ever had a bachelorette party before (not that kinda place you see), but we were on fairly good behavior and they sure took care of us.
There was a lot of walking on the beach, riding bikes, and a whole lot of focus on the food. I'm not sure I can even do it justice, but they sure do eat well at the Sea View. Our first lunch was fried chicken, sliced tomatoes, biscuits with gravy, squash casserole, and apple pie for dessert… ALL homemade! It was ridiculous and we ate up every bite. It went on and on from there. Southern home cooking at it's finest. Thank goodness for a little yoga class to "work off" all our indulgence.

Each night I crawled into a tiny bed with the windows cracked, the salty air rolling in and had some of the best sleep of my life. I mean, I slept hard. All I can think is that coastal air takes a hold over you until the sun comes up and then releases you into the day. It was heaven from start to finish and I can't wait to go back some day.
